This is a unique opportunity to be apart of honoring individuals that have worked in secret and in many cases given their lives for our benefit and for the benefit of our families. Although large donations are of great help even the small donations added together go a long way in our effort to honor these heroes. The following is a letter written by US Senator Harry Reid:

Dear Fellow Nevadans:

As I travel throughout Nevada, I am frequently reminded of the role our state plays in the general security and well being of this country. The efforts of so many Nevadans, many of which began in secret as part of the Cold War, continue to keep America vigilant in maintaining peace at home and around the world.

Often, these individuals worked in obscurity, not even being able to share with their families what they were doing. The families of those who perish during clandestine operations often endure years of suffering from the secrecy surrounding the demise of their loved ones.

Such was the case on November 17, 1955, when a military air transport plane crashed near the peak of Mt. Charleston killing all 14 persons on board. They were part of the development and implementation of the U-2 spy plane. These 14 men and women paid the ultimate price in pursuit of our national security anonymously – until now. I have drafted legislation to designate the crash site as a National Historical Marker. The Silent Heroes of the Cold War Committee, in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 314, will construct a historical marker in the Mt. Charleston area to honor these individuals.

But to make this important monument possible, we will need help from the community. That is why I am encouraging you to contribute to this worthy cause.

With your help, we can build a memorial to individuals for which recognition is long overdue. It will be an addition to our state of which we can all be proud. By leaving future generations a memorial to the Silent Heroes of the Cold War, we recognize the sacrifices that unnamed heroes have made for our country.

Please help this memorial become a reality with your generous support. Your gift is tax deductible.

Sincerely,

HARRY REID
United State Senator
